The range of the new Alfa Romeo Tonale increases to include the most powerful and efficient electrified version. Alfa Romeo's compact SUV, positioned below the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, offers different degrees of electrification within its engine offering, from Mild Hybrid to the new Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4.
Together with the new Alfa Romeo Tonale Hybrid, the plug-in hybrid version adds a higher performance of its propulsion system and more electric range, all with an average consumption and very low emissions that allow it to obtain the environmental label Zero Emissions of the DGT. These are all the features of the Alfa Romeo Tonale plug-in hybrid.
Specially designed for efficiency
The new Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4 has been designed for maximum efficiency. To this end, it features a new-generation plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a four-cylinder, 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine connected to the front axle that develops 180 hp of power, together with an electric drive capable of delivering 90 kW (122 hp) of maximum power and 250 Nm of torque to the rear axle.
The set offers a combined power of 280 hp, while the 15.5 kWh lithium-ion battery is responsible for supplying energy to the electric motor. In this way, the Alfa Tonale plug-in hybrid has an approved range in 100% electric mode of 60 kilometers, which becomes 80 kilometers when driving in the urban cycle. The new Alfa Romeo model is thus one of the most efficient SUVs on the market.
Similarly, the Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4 records a combined fuel consumption of just 1.14 l/100 km (WLTP), withCO2 emissions of only 26 g/km. In addition, in order to offer maximum efficiency, the battery can be charged in less than 2.5 hours from a 7.4 kW charger.
Commanded by a six-speed automatic transmission, the propulsion system offers Q4 all-wheel drive, which ensures agile, light and dynamic behavior. Without sacrificing performance and efficiency despite its hybrid category, the new Tonale Plug-in Hybrid goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and can travel in 100% electric mode at speeds of up to 135 km/h (135 mph). Its top speed in hybrid mode is 206 km/h (206 mph).
Technology to improve your electrical performance
The new Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-in Hybrid Q4 benefits from technologies that allow you to extract maximum performance and efficiency from its hybrid engine. The Alfa D.N.A. driving mode selector has been redesigned to take into account the vehicle's specifications, enabling you to manage the Q4 traction and electronic controls, coordinate the action of the engine and transmission, and modify the sensitivity of the controls.
Dynamic mode is designed to get the most out of the vehicle with specific throttle calibration, transmission management and stability controls, which have been combined with a more direct steering response. On the other hand, the Natural mode adapts the hybrid drive to all-wheel drive to optimize performance. The gasoline engine and electric motor are managed automatically, allowing energy and fuel savings without sacrificing performance.
Finally, the Advance Efficiency program is designed to maximize the efficiency of the 100% electric mode. Ideal for urban commuting, this mode offers the possibility of taking your foot off the accelerator and the car will drive in sailing mode. It also offers a new eCoasting Descent Control function that is activated on descents to maintain a constant speed of 50 km/h (30 mph).
It also integrates other technologies such as the E-Save function that allows recharging or maintaining the battery level when the internal combustion engine is on, or the regenerative braking system, which recovers energy during deceleration and braking phases and stores it in the battery. In addition, with the E-Coasting function active, the Tonale PHEV allows one-pedal driving.
