The range of Mercedes-AMG vehicles now has a new member, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance. The most powerful production vehicle ever created by AMG joins the range of new Mercedes cars, with a sporty design, top-level performance, and luxury equipment and finishes.

Mercedes-AMG has created in the AMG GT 63 S E Performance the first high-performance plug-in hybrid car. It combines the best of two worlds: the performance of a sports car and the efficiency of a Mercedes-Benz hybrid. The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is the most impressive, dynamic and exclusive model created by the brand.

Design of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance

The exterior of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance breathes sportiness on all four sides. Based on the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door 2021, the AMG GT 63 S E Performance integrates some design elements that make it unique, such as the characteristic front apron, which is oriented by the shape of the two-door AMG GT, or the air intakes at the ends of the front, which are now larger. Three vertical profiles channel the air flow to the radiators installed in the wheel arches.

At the rear of the new AMG is a rear apron with integrated socket cover and the model logo on a red background. The trapezoidal trims of the twin tailpipes are new, as is the "E PERFORMANCE" badge on the side fenders. New 20" and 21" alloy wheels in two chrome variants, seven new paint finishes and the new AMG Night II package, or the combination of Night package and carbon fiber package, are available.

Sporty and exclusive interior

The widescreen cockpit takes center stage in the interior of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance. This standard cockpit includes the MBUX infotainment system with hybrid-specific displays and functions. The driver has access via the instrument cluster to electric range, fuel consumption, electric motor power and torque, and battery and electric motor temperature. Even rear passengers can view data on energy flow and electric motor power and torque from an optional media display.

The new standard AMG Performance steering wheel features an eye-catching design with double spokes and integrated buttons. From the steering wheel, the driver can control important vehicle functions and all driving programs without removing his or her hands. The interior of the AMG GT 63 S E Performance can be customized through the combination of exclusive nappa leather titanium gray pearl/black with yellow stitching, or the noble exclusive nappa leather tartufo/black with diamond stitching STYLE. In addition, there are five colors for the exclusive Nappa leather STYLE finish.

Mercedes' most powerful plug-in hybrid

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is a high-performance plug-in hybrid car. AMG has configured a propulsion system that allows to raise this four-door coupe to the level of the best sports cars on the market. It combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a permanently excited synchronous electric motor , a high-performance battery and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive.

The combination of both engines enables the AMG GT 63 S E Performance to deliver up to 843 hp of power. The maximum combined torque of more than 1,400 Nm makes it an almost unrivaled supercar on the market. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds, and from 0 to 200 km/h in less than ten seconds. In addition, its top speed is 316 km/h.

The electric motor alone delivers 150 kW (204 hp) of power. It is located on the rear axle, where it is combined with a two-speed transmission with electric coupling and a self-locking differential. In turn, the entire drive system is managed by a nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G automatic transmission connected to an AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system.

Battery, autonomy and recharging

The AMG High Performance battery is inspired by the world of Formula 1. This lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 6.1 kWh, a stepless power output of 70 kW and a maximum power output of 150 kW over a period of ten seconds. It weighs just 89 kg and offers the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance up to 12 kilometers of electric range. This makes the new AMG an efficient vehicle for emission-free city driving and a low noise level in residential areas.

Once the battery charge is depleted, it is as easy as connecting it to a charging station, a Wallbox or a domestic socket. To recharge it uses the 3.7 kW charger installed in the vehicle.

Driving modes and recovery levels

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance offers the ability to adapt to different driving styles and needs. Thanks to the seven AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programs, the driver can choose between "Electric", "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport+", "RACE", "Slippery Road" and "Individual". Each of these programs is optimized for the characteristics of the new drive technology and thus offers a highly variable driving experience, from very efficient to very dynamic.

In addition, the driver has a choice of four levels of recuperation. This technology allows energy to be recovered when the accelerator is released, recharging the electric battery and improving consumption, efficiency and performance. There are four different recovery levels:

  • Level 0: the vehicle behaves like a conventional model with a combustion engine, i.e. there is no forward resistance when lifting the foot off the accelerator.
  • Level 1: this is the standard setting, in which the driver perceives recovery at a still low level.
  • Level 2: intense recovery. It is hardly necessary to apply the brake pedal when moving in flowing traffic.
  • Level 3: maximum level of energy recovery. At this level, "One-Pedal" driving is possible, i.e., the braking is so intense that it can stop the vehicle without applying the brakes.

On the other hand, the new AMG GT 63 S E Performance is equipped as standard with the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension with a wide range of settings. The powerful AMG ceramic high-performance braking system with composite discs is also a highlight.
