Mercedes plug-in hybrids 2021: all models
The 2021 range of Mercedes plug-in hybrid models consists of 14 vehicles and 22 different versions. These cars are available within three groups: compact, sedans and SUVs. In this way, Mercedes Benz has a wide offer aimed at any type of customer looking for an efficient car adapted to their needs.
A compact full hybrid range
Within the compact range of Mercedes Benz are five plug-in hybrid models that share mechanical characteristics. The propulsion system combines a 1.33-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a 75 kW (100 hp) electric drive. The combined output of 218 hp and a maximum combined torque of 450 Nm are combined with a 15.6 kWh lithium-ion battery and an 8G-DCT automatic transmission, achieving an electric range of between 56 and 69 km.
The top representative of this compact range is the Mercedes A 250 e-Class. Available in compact and sedan versions, it has an average fuel consumption of 1.4-1.5 l/100 km and offers an electric range of between 60 and 69 kilometers.
For the customer looking for a minivan, the Mercedes B-Class 250 e combines electric mobility with interior space. It offers a range of 56 to 67 kilometers, and an average fuel consumption of 1.4-1.6 l/100 km.
Finally, the elegant but sophisticated Mercedes CLA 250 e is available in Coupé and Shooting Brake versions. This youthful and sporty model achieves an average fuel consumption of 1.4-1.6 l/100 km and a range of 58 to 69 kilometers.
Mercedes plug-in hybrid sedans
The sedans are aspirational models full of technology, the highest standards of comfort of Mercedes Benz. Both the Mercedes C-Class and E-Class offer respective plug-in hybrid versions that can be purchased in Sedan and Estate bodywork. On the one hand, a gasoline hybrid that combines a 211 hp 2.0-liter turbo engine with a 90 kW (122 hp) electric drive powered by a 13.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that can be fully recharged in just an hour and a half.
With a combined output of 320 hp and a maximum torque of 700 Nm, the Mercedes C 300 e Sedan and C 300 e Estate, and Mercedes E 300 e Sedan and E 300 e Estate achieve average fuel consumption of just 1.4-2.0 l/100 km, and electric ranges of between 46 and 56 kilometers on a single charge. They are equipped with a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission and 4MATIC rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
The second option is the efficient diesel hybrid. The C 300 de and E 300 de versions, available in both body options, combine a 2.0-liter 194 hp diesel engine with the 90 kW (122 hp) electric drive and 13.5 kWh battery. The result is 306 hp and 700 Nm of combined torque. In this case, the homologated consumption figures are 1.2-1.6 l/100 km and a range of between 45 and 55 km.
SUV with EQ Power technology
The SUV range, which stands out for its robustness, style and capability, is also available with up to nine plug-in hybrid versions. The Mercedes GLA 250 e features the same hybrid drive system as the compact range with 218 hp of power and 450 Nm of combined torque. In the GLA plug-in hybrid, fuel consumption is 1.6-1.8 l/100 km and range up to 61 kilometers.
The Mercedes GLC 300 e and GLC 300 e, both versions available with SUV and Coupé body, have the same hybrid gasoline and diesel hybrid propulsion system of the C-Class and E-Class. Thus, the GLC 300 e and GLC 300 e Coupé offer 320 hp of power, 4MATIC traction, a 13.5 kWh battery and a range of between 39 and 45 kilometers with an average consumption of just 2.3-3.0 l/100 km. The diesel hybrid variant, the GLC 300 de and GLC 300 de Coupé, has 306 hp of power, an average consumption of 1.7-2.2 l/100 km and a range of between 40 and 45 kilometers.
Finally, the Mercedes GLE 350 e and GLE 350 e Coupé offers up to 333 hp of power and 700 Nm of combined torque. Meanwhile, the Mercedes GLE 350 de and GLE 350 de Coupé feature 320 hp of power. Both versions are equipped with a 31.2 kWh battery. The GLE gasoline-hybrid is rated at 0.9-1.2 l/100 km of average fuel consumption, with a range of between 89 and 99 kilometers. The GLE diesel hybrid reduces its average consumption to 0.7-1.1 l/100 km and its electric range is between 90 and 100 kilometers.
Mercedes plug-in hybrids arriving in 2021
The future is full of novelties and only in 2021 two new Mercedes plug-in hybrids will arrive to join the EQ Power range. The first, the new Mercedes Benz C-Class 300 e plug-in hybrid that will replace the C 300 e and C 300 of the previous generation. It combines a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and a 95 kW (129 hp) electric drive. The result is more than 300 hp of power fed by a 25.6 kWh lithium-ion battery with which it manages to travel about 100 kilometers in electric mode. In addition, this battery can be fully recharged in just 30 minutes.
In second place, the new Mercedes Benz S-Class plug-in hybrid. The plug-in hybrid version of the new S-Class promises more than 500 hp of power, a combined consumption of 0.8-1.3 l/100 km and an electric range of between 81 and 103 kilometers. Both the C 300 e (Sedan and Estate) and the new S-Class plug-in hybrid will reach dealerships in 2021.
