Is your Mercedes Benz key fob not responding and you can't unlock the doors? It's likely that the battery in your Mercedes key fob is dead and is causing the problem. Replacing the battery in your Mercedes Benz remote control is easier than you might think. It only takes a few minutes to replace the battery, without tools, with your hands or with parts of the remote control itself.

Mercedes keys - and subsequent controls - have undergone a constant evolution over the years. They have gone from being a traditional key, which allowed to operate the locks and the starter cylinder, to intelligent controls focused on comfort. With the Keyless Go system, you can open the doors of your Mercedes Benz and start the engine with just the key on you, without operating any button or physical mechanism, just with your presence and that of the remote control.

The Mercedes key has become more than just a tool for accessing and starting the car. It is now a design element, with Mercedes Benz's own style, technology and quality. But, like any other electrical component, the battery of the Mercedes key fob also depletes with use and time. So, the time will come when you will have to change the battery of your Mercedes remote control to be able to continue enjoying its basic functions.

How to change the battery of your Mercedes remote control?

First of all, you must make sure that the battery is empty. To do this, check the red LED light. If the light it emits is dim and faint, the battery is at a very low level and it is time to replace it. In the case of the old remote control, the replacement is done in three simple steps:

1- Pull the key blade out of its slot. Press the button and pull it out.

2- With the key blade itself, we press a small tab located on the inside, while pulling the body of the control in the opposite direction. This allows to extract a tray with two batteries of type CR2025 (you will find the original spare batteries Mercedes Benz in the workshops of Grupo Concesur.

3- Replace the batteries - remember to place them in the same position - and reassemble the controller in the same way it was disassembled.

What about more modern controls?

The system for changing the battery of the modern Mercedes remote control is very similar to the previous example. The first two steps are performed in the same way: pull out the sprat and use it to operate a small tab located inside. Instead of removing the knob mechanism with the battery, the rear cover on the side of the buttons is detached from the assembly. This gives us direct access to the small CR2025 battery that we will have to replace. Finally, all that remains is to reassemble the controller.

The new Mercedes key: how do you change the battery?

The new remote has been implemented in models such as the Mercedes A-Class, the new Mercedes E-Class or the Mercedes GLC, among many others, since 2016. Like any other smart key, it is powered by a battery and, with use and the passage of time, it runs out of charge and needs to be replaced.

This new key has been designed so that you can change the battery in a few simple steps:

1- Instead of removing the key blade as in the previous examples, we press the button that releases the key, but we push the back cover (usually black) to the opposite side.

2- Locate the battery. Although it is not visible to the naked eye, you will be able to locate a small indentation from which you will have to pull, freeing the compartment where the CR2032 battery is housed.

3- Replace the battery with a new one -remember to place it in the same position- and insert again the tray in its slot. Finish changing the battery of the remote control of your Mercedes by assembling the rear casing in the same position.

What to do if the battery in my Mercedes remote control runs out?

Even if you can't change the battery in your Mercedes Benz remote control, you will still be able to access its interior. All of our remotes are designed to have an integrated key that is removed from its compartment by pressing a physical button. This key blade allows you to lock or unlock the driver's door, giving you access to the interior of the car. All other doors can be opened thanks to the central locking system.

With the Keyless Go hands-free access and start system, even if the battery is dead, you can still start and drive your Mercedes. The car is still able to locate the signal emitted by the key once inside the vehicle, which allows you to unlock the steering wheel and start the engine, driving from this point onwards as normal. It is advisable to change the battery of your Mercedes remote control as soon as possible and always use original spare parts.
