New Peugeot 408 Hybrid, at last the ECO label version

The new Peugeot 408 was born with a large presence of electrified engines within its mechanical offer. In addition to an efficient gasoline engine, the fastback crossover offers a Plug-in Hybrid version with two power levels, the Peugeot 408 Hybrid Enchufable. Now, the mechanical range grows by incorporating an intermediate option with ECO label, the new Peugeot 408 Hybrid.

Once again, Peugeot demonstrates its commitment to the electrification of its model range, offering at least one electrified version in all its cars to reduce fuel consumption and improve efficiency in terms of emissions. The 408 mild hybrid (MHEV) joins other launches the brand has made based on this technology, such as the Peugeot 2008 Hybrid and the new Peugeot 3008 Hybrid.

The Peugeot 408 Hybrid is equipped with a mild hybrid propulsion system that combines a new 1.2 Puretech gasoline engine with an electric drive integrated into a new automatic gearbox and a 48-volt battery. With a maximum power output of 136 hp and 230 Nm of torque, this new powertrain achieves a 20% improvement in consumption and type-approved emissions.

The new e-DCS6 six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission integrates a 21 kW electric drive that assists the gasoline engine in acceleration phases by means of the so-called ' boost effect ', in which you will momentarily enjoy extra power, a very practical feature when overtaking or entering fast lanes .

At the same time, a 48-volt hybrid battery stores electrical energy that the 408 Hybrid obtains during deceleration, using the gasoline engine as a generator or through regenerative braking. Thanks to this battery, it is possible to drive in 100% electric mode for approximately 1 kilometer at speeds of less than 30 km/h (19 mph).

Therefore, the Peugeot 408 hybrid can circulate in 'zero emissions' mode up to 50% of the time in city journeys. In addition, maneuvers such as starting, moving in traffic jams or parking maneuvers will be done whenever possible in electric mode, so the gasoline engine will remain disconnected, saving fuel.

The 408 Hybrid therefore achieves an average fuel consumption of only 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers, withCO2 emissions of 115 grams per kilometer. This represents a 20% reduction in both parameters compared to the PureTech gasoline version and access to the ECO environmental label.

Equipped and technological

The new Peugeot 408 Hybrid is available in two different trim levels. On the one hand, the range access version is called Allure and incorporates standard equipment such as keyless entry and start, parking sensors and rear view camera. This is joined by two 10" screens for the digital instrument panel and infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, tinted windows and headlights with Full LED technology.

The GT version is the most equipped option in the range. With a sportier style and an interior with Alcantara upholstery with mint stitching, the 408 GT adds to the standard equipment of the Allure version 19-inch aluminum wheels, heated steering wheel, front parking sensors and electric exterior mirrors.

In terms of safety, the Peugeot 408 stands out for technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, night vision system, Full LED Matrix Beam headlights, long-range blind spot monitoring and Rear Traffic Alert.

The new Peugeot 408 Hybrid joins the Plug-in Hybrid versions, which develop 180 hp and 225 hp of power, respectively. Both represent the most efficient option within the engine offer, with a combined consumption of 1.4 l/100 km and emissions of 31 g/km, as well as a range in 100% electric mode of up to 63 kilometers per charge. These two versions of the 408 will be joined by an electric model in the coming months.
