Jeep Avenger: all the details of Jeep's first electric SUV

Jeep has just revealed all the details of the new Jeep Avenger, the brand's first electric SUV that will arrive in Spain in 2023. The new model is part of the company's electrification strategy, which includes from the Jeep 4xe range of plug-in hybrids to the addition of four zero-emission vehicles in Europe by 2025. This strategy pursues the ambitious goal of making all Jeep vehicles on sale in the region 100% electric by 2030.

The new Avenger 2023 is the first stone on the road to the total electrification of Jeep, a compact SUV aimed at urban use that combines the efficiency of its 100% electric propulsion system with the off-road characteristics of the other models of the brand, such as the Jeep Wrangler. Now, Jeep has unveiled all the details of the new Avenger after its unveiling at the Paris Motor Show.

Jeep Avenger: 100% Jeep design

The 2023 Jeep Avenger is an urban SUV with compact proportions and muscular lines full of character. The front end features Jeep's signature seven-section vertical grille, flanked by LED headlamps and slim daytime running lamps integrated into the top of the headlamps. The rugged off-road bumper and wide hood give the new Avenger strength and presence.

Defined wheel arches, moldings on the lower section of the doors, and side and fender guards give it a unique silhouette along with an elongated roof and a wide C-pillar. Details such as the rear door handles integrated into the frame, the Avenger designation on the front doors and the black roof give the electric SUV a distinctive style.

From the rear of the Jeep Avenger, a spoiler, rectangular LED lights, a wide trunk door and a bumper covered with plastic protections and a central plate of metallic appearance are glimpsed. The new 2023 Avenger will thus be the new Jeep entry-level model, sitting below the Jeep Renegade, and features 18" wheels with a robust design and diamond-cut finish on 690 mm tires.

Spacious and technological interior

The interior of the Jeep Avenger has a clean and robust design, with a functional dashboard inspired by the Wrangler, large doses of space and habitability, and an outstanding technological section. It all starts with a digital instrument panel available in two sizes, 7" and 10.25". It is placed in front of a multifunction steering wheel with flat bottom and a sporty style with metallic details.

On the right, above the front console in a floating position is a 10.25" touchscreen for the Uconnect infotainment system. It is positioned above the air vent integrated in a molding available in body color and that runs across the entire interior width. Just below it is one of the first gloveboxes in the cabin and on the center console there are some physical switches for the climate control and multimedia system.

It highlights the large storage compartment in the lower console, complemented by another compartment next to the center armrest and the glove compartments in the doors. In total, 34 liters of capacity distributed in different compartments, a figure well above the 15 liters of the segment average.

The new Avenger offers space inside for up to 5 passengers and the front seats include premium seats with leather inserts in the central part of the backrest and headrest. These seats are electronically adjustable and integrate massage function. In addition, there is multicolor ambient lighting, a sunroof and a wireless charging point for mobile devices.

Finally, the trunk of the Jeep Avenger has a capacity of 380 liters and offers great functionality thanks to the sill height lowered to 720 mm. In addition, you can load bulky objects thanks to the tailgate, which exceeds one meter wide and integrates the hands-free opening system.

Fully electric

Jeep's new strategy is based on driving 4xe technology, developing a portfolio of capable, all-electric vehicles designed and sized for Europe. With the new Avenger 2023, Jeep achieves its first goal of positioning an urban SUV with an efficient all-electric powertrain that meets the needs of its customers and offers a smart mobility solution for the cities of the future.

The Jeep Avenger's newly developed 400-volt electric propulsion system, which recently debuted on the new Peugeot e-308, delivers 115 kW (156 hp) of power and 260 Nm of torque. It is powered by a new battery with 54 kWh of energy capacity composed of 17 modules and 102 cells, allowing it to achieve a homologated range (WLTP) of 400 kilometers in combined cycle, and up to 550 kilometers in urban cycle.

The battery has been tested for more than two million kilometers, is compact, non-intrusive and is located under the front and rear seats. It is protected from external elements and impacts and offers a high charging capacity. Thanks to a 100 kW DC Mode 4 cable, the Avenger can go from 20% to 80% battery level in just 24 minutes, or add 30 kilometers of range in just three minutes. In addition, it can be charged from a wallbox or public charging station from 0% to 100% battery level in 5.5 hours.

Off-road capability

At 4.08 meters long, the Jeep Avenger 2023 is 16 cm shorter and 13 cm lower than the Renegade. It features short front and rear overhangs, as well as a class-leading ground clearance of 200 mm. This allows the new Jeep model to retain first-class off-road dimensions, with angles of attack of 20º, 20º ventral and 32º departure angles.

To these technical qualities must be added the use of off-road technology thanks to the experience of Jeep. The new Avenger is the first front-wheel drive Jeep to include Selec Terrain and Hill Descent Control as standard. Thanks to Selec Terrain you can choose from one of six available driving programs to adapt the behavior of the Avenger to the road or surface conditions:

  • Normal: for daily driving
  • Eco: to improve autonomy
  • Sport: for a sportier driving experience
  • Snow: for maximum traction on icy roads or trails
  • Mud: to optimize performance in mud and improve grip
  • Sand: for sandy soils where the car may get stuck

Technology, connectivity and security

In safety and driving assistance technology, the Avenger offers Level 2 autonomous driving thanks to Traffic Jam Assist, which automatically controls speed and trajectory with adaptive cruise control and lane keeping functions.

To this must be added the traffic sign recognition system, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition, fatigue detector, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assistant, 360º parking sensors with Active Park Assist and rear view camera.
