Jeep Compass e-Hybrid: the efficient version of the ECO-labeled SUV

The Jeep Compass electrifies its range with highly efficient hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The range-entry option, the Jeep Compass e-Hybrid, is a vehicle that combines the performance of a gasoline engine with a hybrid touch that helps reduce consumption and emissions, and obtain the environmental label ECO of the Directorate General of Traffic, while dispensing with wires and plugs to recharge your battery.

Along with the new Jeep Renegade, the Compass Hybrid also includes a plug-in hybrid 4xe version with Zero Emissions label to complete the range of electrified powertrains. The Compass is thus one of the brand's most efficient models, combining next-generation engine technology with Jeep SUV off-road capability, technology and rugged, durable styling.

The new Jeep Compass hybrid adopts micro-hybrid technology, or Mild Hybrid, as a solution to improve both its performance and efficiency in everyday use. This level of hybridization is simple and very easy to use, with a high degree of automation that will allow you to enjoy your Compass e-Hybrid without worrying about recharging its battery or its electric range.

The basis of the propulsion system of the Jeep Compass e-Hybrid is an efficient and performance gasoline engine 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder. This turbocharged engine develops 130 hp of power and 240 Nm of torque, and integrates an electric drive of 15 kW (20 hp) and 135 Nm of torque that assists the gasoline engine in different conditions. This electric assistance reduces the stress on the gasoline engine, which helps to lower fuel consumption and increase range on a single tank.

This is made possible by a 48-volt electric system and a new second-generation 0.8 kWh battery that is shared with other models such as the new Alfa Romeo Tonale Hybrid. When the battery has sufficient energy charge, the electric motor can move the wheels of the Compass Hybrid or support the gasoline engine in situations where more power is demanded, such as overtaking or joining the highway.

The entire system is controlled by an effective and convenient 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Jeep Compass e-Hybrid achieves a homologated average fuel consumption (WLTP) of only 5.6 l/100 km, which is equivalent to the consumption of a diesel with the performance of a gasoline car and all the benefits of the ECO environmental label.

Technology to optimize hybrid and electric mobility

The hybrid technology of the Jeep Compass e-Hybrid allows the integration of different functionalities and unique features. The hybrid SUV offers "zero-emission" propulsion during start-up and parking maneuvers, or when driving at low speed or cruising. It also includes the regenerative braking system that recovers energy during braking phases, allowing the 48-volt battery to be recharged.

Features such as Silent Start, for example, allow the Compass to start without starting the gasoline engine, using a quiet, purely electric driving mode. This feature is associated with the e-Launch mode, which restarts the electric drive at short stops, such as traffic lights or traffic jams.

With the e-Creeping system you can perform low-speed maneuvers, for example when parking, without using gasoline. These movements at a very low speed are performed only with the electric motor, with a maneuvering range wide enough to perform the entire parking with the gasoline engine disconnected.

Another feature of the Jeep Compass hybrid system are the energy recovery systems in deceleration phases (called e-Coasting) and during braking (regenerative braking). In addition, through the "e-boosting" function, the electric motor supports the gasoline engine during acceleration, providing the extra torque needed to optimize the operating point of the internal combustion engine.

In addition, it has three specific driving modes for the light hybrid system:

  • Electric Drive: the Compass e-Hybrid drives using only the electric motor, while the gasoline engine is turned off.
  • e-Queueing: allows the vehicle to continue moving in the event of a traffic jam in all-electric mode.
  • e-Parking: performs parking maneuvers in electric mode, without consuming gasoline.

What does the Jeep Compass e-Hybrid offer?

The Jeep Compass e-Hybrid offers all the features of the diesel or gasoline-powered Compass and adds the electrified functions of its efficient powertrain. Jeep's SUV is 4.40 meters long and has an interior that can accommodate up to five passengers. In addition, the Compass Hybrid offers a large trunk with 425 liters of capacity. Thanks to the 60:40 split rear seats, the Compass increases cargo space to 1,270 liters when folded down.

The range, in turn, is divided into four different trim levels, which allows its standard equipment to be evenly distributed:

  • Longitude: 17" alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, rearview camera, USB socket in the rear row, tinted windows, leather steering wheel, 10" color digital instrument panel, Uconnect infotainment system with 8.4" touch screen and LED headlights with reflector.
  • Night Eagle (adds to Longitude): 18" alloy wheels, Night Eagle Pack (tinted rear windows and black roof side rails), perforated leather-wrapped gearshift, gloss black mirrors, lumbar adjustment on front seats and black window surrounds.
  • Limited (adds to Longitude and Night Eagle): keyless entry and start, black roof side rails, chrome window surrounds, black taillight surrounds, gloss black front grille, security alarm, adaptive cruise control with stop function, photosensitive interior mirror, wireless mobile device charger, Smartbeam smart headlights and LED fog lights.
  • Compass S (adds to the previous trims): 19" wheels, front parking sensors, black roof and Infotainment Plus Pack (hands-free tailgate, 10.1" touch screen and traffic sign recognition).
