Alfa Romeo takes a new step in its ambitious electrification goals by presenting its first electric car. The new Alfa Romeo Milano officially debuts as the fourth model in an expanding product range, an attractive proposal also available in hybrid version that stands out for design, performance and that sporty touch characteristic of Alfa.
Together with the also new Alfa Romeo Tonale, the Milano is the latest addition to an SUV range already represented by the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. This time, however, it offers the brand's first foray into the electric car segment with a compact vehicle with a bold design, a high-quality, technological interior and a full range of electrified powertrains.
Alfa Romeo Milano, Made in Italy design
The design of the new Milano is in line with Alfa Romeo's sporty and stylistic DNA. Every element of its elaborate aesthetics has been studied to bring the essence of the Italian brand to the electric compact SUV. Designed at the Alfa Romeo Centro Stile, the front end of the new Milano features bold, adaptive C-shaped Full LED Matrix headlights flanking the brand's signature diamond grille.
A sporty styling element is the front bumper, with a large air intake and sharply defined creases on the sides. From the profile, the new Milano is an athletic SUV, with large wheel arches, a high window line and shapes that flow towards the rear of the body.
At the rear is the iconic "truncated tail", a reference to the legendary Giulia TZ. It integrates details such as a sporty roof spoiler, LED lights divided into groups of three units masked in a large black molding, a large trunk with the inscription 'Alfa Romeo' and a bumper with sporty tints.
The dimensions of the new Alfa Romeo Milano are those of a compact urban SUV: 4.17 meters long, 1.78 meters wide and 1.5 meters high. Different body colors and various wheel designs ranging from 18" to 20" are also available.
A high-end interior
The interior of the new Alfa Romeo Milano combines sporty details with high-end finishes. In the cockpit, everything is driver-oriented, creating an immersive driving experience. The new flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel gives way to a 10.25" digital instrument panel that allows access to the car's data and various technological settings.
At the center of the dashboard sits an infotainment system commanded by a customizable, accessible 10.25" touchscreen with all kinds of multimedia features and the latest in Alfa Romeo connectivity. At the bottom are the climate controls, a lower console with the start button and transmission selector, and an inductive charging dock for mobile devices.
Also part of the cabin are the lightweight, ergonomically designed Sabelt sport seats with a wrap-around design.
The Alfa Romeo Milano's cabin features high-end materials and a wide selection of upholstery fabrics. In the rear is a luggage compartment with a load capacity of up to 400 liters, complemented by a convenient cable organizer storage compartment located under the hood, a space designed to store the battery charging cable.
Two electric versions and one 48 V hybrid
Mechanically, the new Alfa Romeo Milano is available in three different versions. The Milano Ibrida version is equipped with a 48-volt hybrid propulsion system, which combines a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with a 21 kW electric motor integrated into an innovative six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a lithium-ion battery that stores the electric energy.
As a result, the Milano hybrid, which will have an ECO environmental label from the DGT in Spain, develops 136 hp of power, a clear reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, and the ability to circulate up to 50% of urban driving time in electric mode. This version is also available with Alfa Romeo's famous Q4 all-wheel drive.
The Milano Elettrica version is equipped with a newly developed 100% electric propulsion system. It is available in two power levels, 156 hp and 240 hp, both together with a new 54 kWh battery that provides up to 410 kilometers of homologated range, or 590 kilometers in the urban cycle.
In addition, when the battery runs out of charge, the new Milano offers fast DC recharging of up to 100 kW, allowing you to go from 10% to 80% of the battery level in less than 30 minutes.
Other features of the new Milano include a more direct steering configuration (available on the Veloce version), sport suspension that lowers the ride height by 25 mm, thicker anti-roll bars, a braking system with 380 mm front discs and four-piston calipers and a Torsen differential that improves traction in all circumstances.
Finally, the new Milano also features the Alfa D.N.A. system that includes three driving modes: Dynamic, Natural and Advanced Efficiency. The Q4 Ibrida version adds a fourth driving mode known as Q4 and developed for low-grip driving.
Technology and equipment
The new Alfa Romeo Milano is equipped with the brand's latest technology. It highlights the EV Routing function, which allows planning the route through the navigator with indications of the stops needed to charge the battery and the time required. It also provides access to the most extensive charging network in Europe with the Alfa Romeo E-CARD thanks to the eSolutions Charging application.
Other innovations are offered by Alfa Connect Services with wireless updates (OTA) and functions such as My Navigation, My Remote, which allows remote access to different vehicle features; and E-Control, with which it is possible to manage start and stop, program charging or thermal preconditioning of the cabin. In addition, the new Milano integrates the Hey Alfa virtual assistant and ChatGPT's Artificial Intelligence technology.
In terms of safety, the new Milano is equipped with a series of driver assistance functions to help with longitudinal and lateral control of the vehicle. In addition, parking maneuvers are made easier thanks to 360° parking sensors, the 180° rear camera and an innovative semi-autonomous parking system.
Optionally, the new Milano includes three equipment packages to complete the offer:
- Techno: hands-free electric tailgate, Matrix LED lights and connected navigation with virtual assistant.
- Premium: vinyl and cloth upholstery, power driver's seat with massage function, interior ambient lighting and aluminum plate.
