Electrification plays a key role in Opel's future plans. The brand expects to become an electric car manufacturer by 2028 and this will only be possible by building a range of electrified vehicles accessible to all customers. Currently, Opel offers up to 12 ECO and Zero Emission labeled cars, regardless of their body variants, bringing the number to 15 vehicles.
Opel advocates a range where hybrid engines coexist with 100% electric versions as a method for all drivers to enjoy an electrified vehicle adapted to their needs and budget. While hybrid models stand out for their balance between performance and consumption, Opel's electric cars stand out for their range, ease of use and recharging times.
Opel cars with ECO label
Opel' s ECO-labeled cars are equipped with a mild hybrid propulsion system (MHEV). This technology brings clear advantages in terms of reduced consumption and emissions, while its simplicity makes it accessible and practical for everyone. Hybrid versions are the most interesting solution if you do not yet want to make the leap to a plug-in vehicle.
The range consists of three models, as well as a fourth car that will arrive during 2024. In all of them, the propulsion system consists of a 1.2-liter gasoline engine associated with a new e-DCS6 six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which integrates a 21 kW electric motor powered by a 48-volt hybrid battery.
The result is a total output of 136 hp with 230 Nm of torque. Models such as the Opel Corsa Hybrid or the Astra Hybrid already benefit from this 48-volt mild hybrid technology that allows access to the ECO environmental label. In addition, they offer ranges in electric mode of up to 1 kilometer at speeds below 30 km/h, making them ideal for urban driving, being able to perform maneuvers, such as starting or parking, using only electric power.
This 48-volt hybrid technology is also available in the new Opel Grandland Hybrid and will be available in the hybrid version of the new Opel Frontera this year. So you have access to an ECO-labeled Opel car to suit all kinds of needs, including city cars, compact cars and SUVs.
Opel Zero Emission labeled plug-in hybrid cars
One alternative is Opel's plug-in hybrid cars. This technology, which carries the Zero Emissions environmental label, combines the best of both worlds: the independence of the combustion engine with the efficiency of electric technology.
This allows a clear versatility and a great versatility of use, since it is possible to manage the electric charge, for example, reserving it for city driving while using the gasoline engine for road trips.
The brand's range of plug-in hybrid cars consists of the Opel Grandland Plug-in Hybrid and the Opel Astra Plug-in Hybrid, available in both 5-door and Sports Tourer versions. At the same time, the offer includes the range of GSe models, based on Grandland, Astra and Astra Sports Tourer, with powerful hybrid propulsion systems also oriented to performance and sportiness.
The basis of Opel's plug-in hybrid propulsion system is a 1.6-liter gasoline engine that, managed by an automatic gearbox, is associated with an electric motor to develop 180 hp and 225 hp power. The Grandland GSe, meanwhile, adds a second electric motor that allows you to raise the power of the system to 300 hp, while generating an electric 4×4 traction system.
At the battery level, the Opel Astra plug-in hybrid offers 66-67 kilometers of range, while the GSe model is rated at 62-64 kilometers. Meanwhile, the Opel Grandland in its 225 hp plug-in hybrid version is rated at 65-67 kilometers per charge, and its GSe version offers up to 63 kilometers of range.
Opel Zero Emission labeled electric cars
The third pillar of Opel's electrified range is the brand's electric cars. Currently, the offer includes five different vehicles, while a sixth model will join the range later this year. Opel' s electric cars stand out in terms of efficiency, performance, range and charging times.
The current range includes the following models: Opel Corsa Electric, Opel Astra Electric, Opel Mokka Electric, Opel Combo Electric and Opel Zafira Electric, while the new Opel Frontera Electric will join in 2024. All of them obtain the DGT's Zero Emissions environmental badge.
All models are based on a propulsion system consisting of an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. Depending on the model, the power of the electric motor and the energy capacity of the battery, the homologated range is:
Model | Power | Battery | Autonomy |
---|---|---|---|
Opel Corsa Electric | 136 HP | 50 kWh | 354-357 kilometers |
Opel Corsa Electric | 156 HP | 54 kWh | 405 kilometers |
Opel Mokka Electric | 136 HP | 50 kWh | 338-342 kilometers |
Opel Mokka Electric | 156 HP | 54 kWh | 407 kilometers |
Opel Astra Electric | 156 HP | 54 kWh | 417-419 kilometers |
Opel Astra Electric Sports Tourer | 156 HP | 54 kWh | 411-413 kilometers |
Opel Combo Electric | 136 HP | 50 kWh | 336-345 kilometers |
Opel Zafira Electric | 136 HP | 50 kWh | 219-221 kilometers |
Opel Zafira Electric | 136 HP | 75 kWh | 343-349 kilometers |
