How much does it cost to charge a Peugeot e-208 with a 362 km range?

Peugeot' s electric cars have a great electric range and offer sensational performance for any type of travel, whether in urban environments, which is where they perform best, or on the road, where they have enough power to travel long distances. But although they have lower costs than their internal combustion engine counterparts, recharging the battery of an electric vehicle comes at a price. How much does it cost to charge a Peugeot e-208 with a range of 362 kilometers?

Whether it is an electric Peugeot 208 or a Peugeot e-2008, which offers the same battery capacity and identical charging times, charging an electric car can vary in price depending on the type of charger you use and the electrical power it is capable of supplying. With an electric car, you are not only buying energy at a charging station to feed the battery, but you are also buying time, i.e. the shorter the charging time, the higher the cost of the service.

Before going into detail, let's talk about what the Peugeot e-208's 100% electric propulsion system is like. The basis of this system is a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor with 260 Nm of torque that drives the front wheels. This mechanics is powered by a lithium-ion battery 400 V and 50 kWh capacity, sufficient to approve a range (WLTP) of up to 362 kilometers between charges.

The 208 electric allows you to choose between three driving modes (Eco, Normal and Sport), with which you can promote the range or improve performance, since it only needs 8.1 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km / h. To this must be added two levels of engine braking thanks to the "Break" mode and the Moderate and Increased configurations. And finally, it offers a very effective regenerative braking system, especially in the city, as it uses the energy generated during constant braking to recharge the battery.

How much does it cost to charge a Peugeot e-208 at home?

The price range for recharging an electric vehicle such as the Peugeot e-208 is very wide. Charging the 50 kWh battery can cost between €1.5 and €39.5 depending on the place, time, type of charging station and power. This means that the cost of a recharge can be multiplied by 25 depending on where you do it. For this reason, most electric car drivers recharge their vehicles at home or at work, where the kilowatt is cheaper, and limit the use of public charging stations to emergencies or when making long road trips.

If you have an electricity tariff with hourly discrimination in your home, you will be able to recharge for much less money. This type of tariffs differentiates between peak hours (from 13:00h to 23:00h), off-peak hours (from 23:00h to 1:00h) and off-peak hours (from 1:00h to 7:00h). With this type of reduced tariffs, the cost of charging the Peugeot e-208 ranges from 1.5€ in off-peak hours (0.03€/kWh) to 10.5€ for an average tariff (0.21€/kWh). If you do not have an hourly rate, the price of recharging will be between €12 (0.24 euros/kWh) and €15 (0.31 euros/kWh).

What is the price of recharging a Peugeot e-208 at a public station?

The 100% electric Peugeot e-208 also offers the possibility of fast charging at public charging stations. Its battery offers up to 100 kW of power at direct current (DC) charging points. Therefore, in just half an hour the e-208 can go from 20% to 80% of its charge level, which means being able to travel more than 270 kilometers.

Of course, the cost of this type of fast charging is higher, as it considerably reduces the time needed to recharge. In this type of public chargers, prices range from 0.20 €/kWh for 22 kW charging stations to 0.79 kWh for the higher speed network, with chargers up to 350 kW. Therefore, the price to recharge a Peugeot e-208 in this type of public stations is:

Charging station Time (up to 80%) Cost
DC at 22 kW (full load) 2 hours 10€
DC at >100 kW (full load) 30 minutes 39,5€
DC at >100 kW (up to 80%) 30 minutes 31,5€
