Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance: plug-in hybrid with 680 hp

The new generation of the Mercedes C-Class represents the arrival of first-class technological innovations, benchmarks in the areas of connectivity, safety, comfort and efficiency. Also of sportiness with the new Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC. The next chapter in the success story of the C-Class comes when top performance and electrification are combined in a single concept. The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance exemplifies this concept, making it the most powerful model in its segment.

To achieve such important recognition, Mercedes-AMG has managed to develop a plug-in hybrid propulsion system that opens up new possibilities for the sports sedan, achieving greater power and efficiency than its predecessor. In addition, it has allowed to integrate important innovations at the chassis level, combined with a sporty look, a genuine AMG design along with the highest quality standards to which we are accustomed Mercedes-Benz.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance: exterior and interior design

With a sporty aesthetic, the exterior of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance is 76 mm wider than the standard C-Class thanks to larger wheel arches that accompany an intimidating front. The front is composed of the Panamericana grille with vertical slats, a bumper with large air intakes and a more aggressive look, and a lower lip that gives continuity to its dynamic image.

Ventilation outlets in the front wings and the inscription "Turbo E Performance" accompany specific 19" wheels as standard, or optional 20". At the rear, the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance integrates a spoiler on the trunk lid and a bumper with a diffuser and four exhaust outlets. The family-style version, the C 63 S E Performance Estate, features a different design at the rear, replacing the trunk spoiler with a roof spoiler specific to this configuration.

The sporty styling continues in the interior of the new C-Class AMG. With the usual Mercedes-Benz quality, the C 63 S features AMG-specific graphics on the MBUX infotainment system and digital instrument panel, including a stopwatch for measuring lap times on the racetrack and a driving mode selector on the steering wheel that lets you set suspension and exhaust parameters. New front seats sheathe the high-performance spirit of Mercedes-AMG, along with carbon fiber trim, different upholstery and stitching options, and an AMG Performance steering wheel.

Plug-in hybrid engine

The great novelty in the new generation of the Mercedes C-Class AMG is its mechanical section. The sports division has developed an innovative plug-in hybrid propulsion system consisting of the world's most powerful 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine and a battery-powered electric drive. This configuration, which integrates automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, make the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance a sporty performance and an efficient sedan.

The 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder gasoline engine is the same as that used in the new Mercedes-AMG SL 43, but with a power output of 476 hp and a torque of 545 Nm. This engine integrates technology derived from Formula 1 in the electric turbocharger and is driven by an innovative 9-speed automatic gearbox.

Installed on the rear axle, an electric motor of up to 150 kW (204 hp) (maximum power reached during 10 seconds) allows the new C 63 S E Performance to travel up to 13 kilometers in 100% electric mode at speeds of 125 km/h thanks to its 6.1 kWh battery. Once this range has been exceeded, the minimum power output will be 70 kW (95 hp). In addition, the combination of both engines allows the sports sedan to integrate a 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, which is a first for the C-Class AMG (until now, rear-wheel drive).

100% AMG tuning

By combining the gasoline engine and electric motor, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance develops an output of 680 hp with an impressive 1,020 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful C 63 in history. With these performance figures, both the sedan and the Estate estate go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and have a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h. The top speed can be optionally increased to 280 km/h (270 km/h in the C 63 S Estate).

All this festival of power is accompanied by a specific Mercedes-AMG tuning that integrates a suspension with adaptive damping that offer a perfect balance between sporty driving and comfort on board. This is also possible thanks to the different driving modes available on the new C 63 S E Performance, which allow you to adapt the suspension, throttle response, brakes, steering and sound to your needs. These include Electric, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, Battery Hold and Slippery.

The rear-wheel steering system allows the rear wheels to be turned by 2.5 degrees at speeds below 100 km/h, and by 0.7 degrees at higher speeds, contributing to an enhanced driving experience and improved control over the car. New high-performance composite brakes have also been installed and the electric motor is able to recover energy based on four preset levels, even offering the possibility of single-pedal driving.
