Opel Corsa Hybrid, now with 48-volt hybrid system and ECO label
Contenido del artículo
If there's one thing the new Opel Corsa can bring you, it's driving fun. Its dynamism and excellent handling are now joined by a significant improvement in efficiency with the 48-volt hybrid version and ECO label of the DGT. The new Opel Corsa Hybrid joins a range with gasoline engines and a long-range electric version.
The range of engines is extended with this new hybrid version after the update received in mid-2023. Thus, the Corsa is renewed at the aesthetic and equipment level, and now also with an interesting hybrid version that improves both consumption and emissions. Gain in efficiency, save fuel and move without restrictions with the ECO label.
Opel Corsa Hybrid powertrain characteristics
The basis of the new Opel Corsa hybrid powertrain is a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine developed specifically for hybridization and to comply with the Euro 6.4 emissions standard. It is available with two power levels, 100 hp and 136 hp, and develops a maximum torque of 205 Nm and 230 Nm, respectively.
The gasoline engine is linked to a new electrified six-speed dual-clutch transmission . This gearbox has been developed for hybrid applications, allowing the permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, direct current (DC) inverter and engine control unit (ECU) to be integrated into the housing itself.
The Corsa Hybrid's electric motor produces up to 21 kW (28 hp) of power with 55 Nm of torque, and provides extra power and torque at specific times, such as when overtaking or merging. In addition, there is a belt-driven starter motor that allows the gasoline engine to be started, both when cold and while driving.
Finally, the propulsion system is completed by a new 48-volt lithium-ion battery installed under the left front seat with a useful capacity of 432 Wh, which does not affect the trunk capacity of the hybrid Corsa. This battery powers a 48-volt electrical grid that is responsible for supplying the hybrid system.
Advantages of 48-volt hybrid driving
All this hybrid propulsion set brings advantages both in terms of driving and savings. Compared to the Opel Corsa's conventional gasoline engine, the hybrid version saves almost 1.0 l/100 km of fuel, the equivalent of 15% in combined consumption, with a homologated average of 4.7-4.6 l/100 km.CO2 emissions are also reduced to 106-102 g/km.
Designed for daily driving, both in the city and on the road, the Opel Corsa Hybrid is the sensible choice if you are looking for an electrified car without plugs or recharging times. It is easy to use (the entire system is automatic) and brings benefits both on the road, for its increased performance, and in town, for the possibility of driving fully electrically for up to one kilometer.
This feature makes the Opel Corsa hybrid an ideal car for urban driving. Its hybrid system allows you to drive only on electricity while maneuvering in parking or in city traffic at speeds below 30 km/h.
In addition, forget about recharging the battery, as the hybrid system is autonomous and draws electricity from both the gasoline engine and the standard regenerative braking system. Finally, the dual-clutch automatic transmission provides driving comfort and significantly improved acceleration.
The other features of the Opel Corsa are maintained in the hybrid version. It highlights its renewed design, its complete technological equipment and its interior habitability, with a trunk that can hold more than 300 liters of capacity.
