What is the DGT's advice for the summer exit operation?

Summer begins, and with it our desire to enjoy it. But it is not the only thing that begins, with it also thousands of cars are crowded to gallop along the Spanish roads. Holiday destinations holiday destinations await us and the engines roar with eagerness to chase them.

The summer exit operation has already started with the forecast, according to the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT), of 89.3 million road trips, 2% more than in last year's special device.

But what does the DGT advise us for the summer exit operation?

During the summer weekends, an increase in traffic is expected on the main routes. Mainly on national roads, highways and freeways that go to the coastal areas. Thus, we take the opportunity to travel to the second home and look for a place to rest on the beach.

With the beginning of the holiday period, there are not only more trips. In addition, traffic congestion coincides with longer journeys and night driving.

According to the DGT, these are the schedules that will concentrate more traffic intensity in the summer exit operation:

  1. Friday

Friday will be characterized by travel in the direction out of the major cities. The main roads to the coastal tourist areas will be at unfavorable hours between 16:00 and 22:00.

  1. Saturday

Outbound traffic, coming from large urban centers, may generate conflict on the road. Thus, accesses to the coast, beaches and second home areas will present traffic intensity. At the same time, you will have to take into account the traffic on the roads that go to places of leisure near the city. The hours of greatest intensity will be between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.

  1. Sunday

In the morning, accesses to coastal localities will continue to be conflictive. On the other hand, in the late afternoon there will be a return to the city. The unfavorable schedule will be between 19 and 24 hours, and may extend into the early morning.

Likewise, the DGT recommends to keep a safe distance at all times. This translates into a driving distance of three seconds to prevent accidents. If a vehicle is traveling at 120 kilometers per hour, in three seconds it will travel a little more than 100 meters. This distance is equivalent to the length of a soccer field. This should therefore be the reference for calculating the necessary safety distance.
