With the smart #1, the urban mobility brand has completely reinvented itself. This new electric SUV is a first for smart, enabling the company to launch a new family of models that are more practical and more efficient than ever before. Now, this family is growing with the addition of a second member, the new smart #3.

Conceived as an electric SUV coupe, the #3 has a more aerodynamic and sleeker design, but with the performance and range of the #1. It shares the same platform, design, technology and propulsion systems, but has the advantage of a polished coupe-style design that gives it the advantage of better aerodynamics, which translates into lower energy consumption and, therefore, greater range between charges.

The design of the new smart #3

The design of the new smart #3 is sporty and exciting. It is based on the "Sensual Producty" design philosophy created exclusively for the brand by Mercedes-Benz and features styling elements such as the front light cluster united in a single LED light strip running the entire width of the body, as well as a sporty bumper with a large center section that adds an aggressive touch to the design.

Its large, sloping front windshield gives way to a curved roof that drops to a lower C-pillar, creating the attractive fastback coupe silhouette and helping to deliver an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.27.

Integrated door handles to reduce aerodynamic drag and a rear end with a slanted rear window, slim single-unit headlights and a sporty bumper with integrated diffuser are some of the other notable elements of its bodywork.

A spacious interior

The interior of the smart #3 is dominated by a large 12.8" touchscreen in a raised, floating position where all functions of the infotainment system are grouped together. This is accompanied by a digital instrument panel and a 10" head-up display. The wraparound cockpit features a multifunction steering wheel with metallic finishes to match the dashboard and door panels.

It also offers other comforts, such as excellent sports seats finished in different combinations of leather and fabrics, and a panoramic roof that adds spaciousness and luminosity to the cabin.

In addition, there is a trunk with 370 liters of capacity and a front compartment with another 15 liters of cargo space. Its modular interior allows the rear seats to be folded down, increasing the trunk space to 1,160 liters.

Motorizations and autonomies

The smart #3 is an electric SUV coupe that is available with two different mechanical options. The range-entry option is equipped with an electric motor at the rear delivering 200 kW (272 hp) of power and 343 Nm of torque. This engine can be associated with two battery options, one of 49 kWh with a homologated range of 325 kilometers, and another of 66 kWh and up to 455 kilometers per charge .

The second powertrain is exclusive to the BRABUS model. It consists of two electric motors that enable it to deliver up to 315 kW (428 hp) of power with an all-wheel drive system. The most powerful version is also the fastest, with a 0 to 100 km/h of 3.7 seconds. Energy comes from a 66 kWh battery with which it can travel up to 415 kilometers between charges.

At the same time, the new #3 offers direct current (DC) charging capability with an output of up to 150 kW. This allows its battery to be recharged quickly and in the shortest possible time. By connecting the car to a 150 kW fast charger for 30 minutes, it is possible to go from 10% to 80% of the battery charge.

Technology and security

The new member of the smart family is equipped with the latest technology and safety systems. The electric SUV coupe boasts the latest in connectivity and the most advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) on the market, such as cruise control with Stop & Go function, the active lane keeping system, the blind spot assistant, or the freeway and traffic jam assistant, among others.

All this has enabled the new smart #3 to position itself as one of the safest cars in its segment. Proof of this is that the #3 achieved 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests at the end of 2023, while in 2024 it has obtained 5 Green NCAP stars, thus meeting the most rigorous safety standards on the market.
