Get the most out of your Mercedes' climate control system

Summer is here and with it, the temperatures are rising. The city becomes a pressure cooker, but at last you can go on vacation to the beach. The car becomes your travel tool and, to combat the heat, it has a number of comfort features, including air conditioning. Here are a few tips on how to get the most out of your Mercedes' climate control system this summer.
The Mercedes air conditioner will be in charge of regulating the temperature of the passenger compartment of the car. The air conditioning will allow you to enjoy the trip without facing the dangers of driving in high temperatures, where the risk of having an accident due to lack of concentration soars. It is of vital importance to know the operation of the air conditioning of your Mercedes, as well as to have previously performed a proper maintenance.
How does the climate control system of your Mercedes work?
The operation of the climate control system of your Mercedes is simpler than you can imagine. The module that allows you to regulate the temperature and select the position of the diffusers is located in one place or another depending on the model. Whether integrated in the center console - displaying the options through the MBUX system screen - or within the media display itself as in the new C-Class and S-Class, the operation is identical.
Depending on the Mercedes model, you can control the temperature in two zones (front right and front left seat), in three zones (front right, front left and rear seat) or in up to four zones (front right, front left, rear right and rear left). In addition to the temperature you can choose which air diffusers are active and which are not.
It integrates other functions such as air conditioning activation, temperature synchronization in all zones or the function to defog the windows. Regardless of whether it is a touch control or a physical switch, the operation is the same in all Mercedes Benz models.
Tips to improve air conditioning performance
With these tips you can improve the performance and learn how to use the air conditioning of your Mercedes this summer and combat the high temperatures efficiently:
Park in the shade and/or use sunshades
Always try to park in the shade. If possible, look for a parking lot where the sun does not shine directly on the body of the car. In this way, you can prevent the interior from overheating. During the central hours of the day, when the temperature is higher, try to park the car in a garage or under some kind of roof.
If your situation prevents you from doing so, use sunshades to protect the interior from the sun's rays. This accessory, in addition to projecting the sun's rays out of the car, protects areas such as the dashboard, steering wheel and upholstery from wear and tear. Tinted windows are another infallible method to prevent the temperature in the passenger compartment from rising. When you get back into your Mercedes, the climate control will take less time to reach an optimum temperature if you have taken these measures.
Ventilate the car interior
Another trick to improve the performance of your Mercedes' climate control system is to ventilate the interior of the car. Roll down the windows and leave the doors open for a few minutes. This will allow the accumulated heat inside the car to escape and the air to be renewed. Take the opportunity to activate the air conditioning and help lower the temperature of the passenger compartment. If necessary, drive a few meters with the windows down, this will allow more air to enter the interior while the air conditioner does its job.
Optimum temperature
The choice of the optimum air conditioning temperature is another important point to take into account this summer. Select a temperature between 22 ºC and 24 ºC, and avoid activating the fans at maximum speed. Before getting out of the car, turn up the air conditioning a few degrees to acclimatize to the heat outside. Take a few minutes, your body will thank you for it.
Position of air diffusers
The last tip has to do with the position of the air diffusers. It is common to aim the airflow directly at the occupants' heads. However, this is a common mistake that will cause the rest of the body to still feel the ravages of the heat. The most efficient way to use the air conditioning in your Mercedes is to point the diffusers upwards (you can also use the air vents on the dashboard). This will create a so-called 'air curtain' effect that improves wind chill and comfort, while eliminating fatigue.
Air conditioning maintenance
The air conditioning of your Mercedes is one of the components that you should check the car before a trip this summer. In fact, as part of our maintenance programs, the correct functioning of the air conditioning of your Mercedes is checked every two years. Our technicians will check how to use the car's air conditioner, that no leaks are detected and will properly disinfect the system's ducts.
The cabin filter or anti-pollen filter is responsible for preventing dirt, bacteria or other particles from the outside from entering the interior of the car. It is of vital importance that this filter is in good condition, as it is responsible for preventing the appearance of mold and / or moisture in the air conditioning circuit. For this reason, air conditioning maintenance is performed by replacing the cabin filter periodically.
