Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance: 802 hp of luxury and efficiency

The luxury, elegance and exclusivity of the new Mercedes S-Class now joins the experience and performance of Mercedes-AMG in a high-performance and efficient plug-in hybrid sedan. The new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is the next chapter in the success story of the S-Class, a sporty hybrid with Formula 1 technology and the latest engineering advances that allow the driver to enjoy maximum power even in electric mode.

The most powerful S-Class of all time, a vehicle with the sporty spirit of AMG and the know-how of Mercedes-Benz that sets the standard in the segment of executive sedans. The new S 63 E Performance focuses the electric drive on improving the performance of its propulsion system, although it does not renounce the emission-free mobility that will allow you to make your daily commute without consuming gasoline.

Elegance with sporty touches

At the design level, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is quickly identified as an AMG product, but also as the luxury sedan that is the S-Class. The new specific radiator grille with vertical louvers and a large central star, a front bumper with jet-wing design and large air intakes, and the Mercedes-AMG emblem in silver/black chrome on the hood.

From the side, the AMG S-Class introduces new forged wheels up to 21" and specific side panels, while at the rear there are design features characteristic of the Mercedes 63 models, such as the trapezoidal and fluted embellishers of the dual tailpipe or the wide diffuser with longitudinal fins and diffuser board.

The interior repeats the formula. The seats with special AMG graphics and distinctive stitching, exclusive colors and nappa leather upholstery with AMG shield embossed on the front headrests and multicontour seats for all four seats. This is in addition to specific trim and the standard AMG Performance steering wheel, which integrates buttons to control different functions of the car, the driving programs and the levels of recovery of the hybrid system.

For its part, the MBUX infotainment system has been adapted to the characteristics of the new S 63 E Performance's new plug-in hybrid powertrain. It integrates a number of specific displays and functions. For example, the instrument cluster debuts the Supersport display style; the optional Head-Up Display offers AMG-specific display styles such as Race or Supersport; and the Dolby Atmos sound format takes the interior audio experience to a new level.

Plug-in hybrid propulsion system

Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance

The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance' s plug-in hybrid system consists of a 4.0 twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine that delivers 612 hp of power and 900 Nm of torque. The gasoline powerplant is mated to a 9-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission that sends power to a fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system.

Within the hybrid powertrain there is also a powerful 140 kW (190 hp) electric motor located on the rear axle together with an electrically operated two-speed gearbox and electronically controlled limited slip differential. The union of the two motors yields a maximum output of 802 hp with an impressive 1,430 Nm of torque, figures that match the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance.

These features deliver performance on a par with the best supercars on the market, with a 0 to 100 km/h of just 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 290 km/h if the optional AMG Driver package is specified (250 km/h as standard).

The third pillar of the S 63 E Performance's propulsion system is the AMG high-performance battery, a 13.1 kWh unit that delivers 70 kW of continuous mechanical power and 140 kW of maximum mechanical power. The new 400-volt battery is equipped with an innovative direct cooling system for the 1,200 cells that comprise it and enables an electric range of 33 kilometers per charge to be approved and can be recharged via the 3.7 kW on-board charger installed with alternating current in the charging station, in the wall box or at the domestic power socket.

The functions of your hybrid system

Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance

The new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance allows different functions thanks to its hybrid system. For example, it can drive in 100% electric mode at a speed of up to 140 km/h and offers four levels for energy recovery. These levels range from Level 0, in which the AMG S-Class behaves like a conventional internal combustion vehicle, to Level 3, in which single-pedal driving is possible with a recuperation capacity of more than 90 kW.

In addition, seven driving programs are available within AMG DYNAMIC SELECT. These modes include the Electric program, which gives priority to emission-free driving; Comfort mode, which initiates the drive and runs at low speed in electric mode; and Battery Hold mode, which prioritizes battery charging using either the combustion engine or the electric motor depending on driving needs.

There are also Sport modes, with a sportier feel by combining both engines; Sport+ mode, which further emphasizes the performance and performance of the new S 63 E Performance; Slippery Road, which adjusts power and torque to low-grip conditions for maximum traction and performance; and Individual, which allows you to set the response of the powertrain, transmission, suspension, steering and exhaust system.

Maximum performance at all times

Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance

Above and beyond all its technical features, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is a high-performance sports car. This means that it includes all the necessary equipment to maximize its performance and always obtain the highest possible efficiency both on and off the race track. With this in mind, AMG engineers have implemented a series of technical measures that affect its dynamic behavior.

The AMG DYNAMICS driving dynamics control system is part of the standard equipment, a technology that allows you to increase agility while maintaining stability at all times and that you can manage through three different modes: Basic, Advanced and Pro.

The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ suspension with adaptive damping allows the body to be raised or lowered by 10 mm depending on driving conditions. It also varies its behavior and performance with the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes, in addition to the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL active roll stabilization system and rear-axle steering.
