The new Mercedes eCitan 2022 is the 100% electric version of the Mercedes Citan 2022. It will be added to the range from the second half of next year to complement an offer of electric commercial vehicles where the eVito and eSprinter are already available. With the new eCitan 2022, Mercedes Benz demonstrates its commitment to electric mobility also among individuals and transport professionals.

The design of the new Mercedes eCitan 2022
The exterior of the eCitan 2022 is similar to that of the new generation of the Citan. Styling elements typical of Mercedes Benz stand out, such as the optional LED High Performance headlights or the front grille that integrates the Mercedes star. The battery charging port is subtly concealed under the company sign, and the sides feature one or two sliding doors with a 615 mm wide charging opening. At the rear, the new electric Citan offers a double-hinged door for access to the trunk or a tailgate with a rear window. The optional LED lights are a further sign of the technological quality of the new eCitan. The eCITAN logo proudly displays the electric character of the compact van.
Mercedes Benz electric vans are characterized by a design without significant changes over the image of the combustion engine version. The same applies to the high-quality interior of the Mercedes eCitan 2022. The new functional core integrates an instrument cluster with an electric power meter and a large central display. It also includes ventilation outlets and an optional 7" touchscreen for the advanced MBUX infotainment system, available in the Mercedes Benz Van range.
The eCitan Van has seats upholstered in Caluma fabric as standard or Norwich fabric as an option (standard on Tourer). A multifunction steering wheel inherited from the Mercedes Benz passenger car range and an interior design package available as an option. This package adds high-gloss black elements and chrome accents on dashboard and doors.
Load capacity and dimensions of the Mercedes eCitan
Like the new Citan 2022, the electric version offers a high load capacity. In the Van variant, the compact van features a load volume of up to 2.9 m3 in a compartment with a length of 3.05 meters. In addition, the loading edge is 59 centimeters high and the rear doors can be opened to 90 or up to 180 degrees to the side. Finally, the maximum towable mass is 1.5 meters(pending homologation, the load capacity and volumes are similar on the eCitan).
The measurements of the new Mercedes eCitan 2022 are 4,498 mm long, 1,832 mm high (1,811 mm in the eCitan Tourer), 1,859 mm wide and a wheelbase of 2,716 mm. This means that the new electric Citan is a compact van with a spacious and versatile interior. It includes several storage compartments and, in the Tourer version, the rear seat bench can be split 1/3 to 2/3 and folded down.
The engine of the new electric Mercedes Citan
The engine of the Mercedes eCitan is an independently excited synchronous drive that powers the front wheels of the van. This new engine will have a peak power of 75 kW / 102 hp and a maximum torque available from the start of 245 Nm. These figures are sufficient to reach a top speed limited to 130 km/h. The new eCitan will be available in different body versions, making it a van suitable for transporting passengers and/or goods.
In addition, customers can choose between two driving programs, Comfort and ECO, and three levels of energy recovery (D-/D/D/D+). With these, the driver can optimize the energy consumption of the electric Citan, its range between charges, and the different levels of the energy recovery system.
Battery, autonomy and recharge times
The propulsion system of the new eCitan 2022 will be powered by a lithium-ion battery located in the floor of the van. The battery is composed of eight modules that are impact-protected in front of the rear axle. This new battery pack has a usable capacity of 44 kWh, allowing the range of the Mercedes eCitan 2022 to be approximately 285 kilometers between charges.
The new electric Citan is not only versatile on the outside, but also on the inside. This is reflected in its battery charging times. The eCitan can be conveniently charged with the 11 kW onboard charger or, optionally, with the 22 kWh AC charger. This will allow charging times of 4.5 and 2 hours, respectively, which means that the battery will be fully operational after a short break.
And, if you need to travel more kilometers, connected to a fast charging station with a maximum power of up to 75 kW, the eCitan will go from 10% to 80% of its charge level in just 40 minutes.
When does the new eCitan go on sale?
The new Mercedes eCitan 2022 is expected to reach the market during the second half of next year. It will do so with various body versions and all the advantages of the combustion Citan in a more efficient format.
