The DGT is considering the possibility of reducing the blood alcohol level to zero because, according to traffic data, almost half of those killed on the roads in the summer of 2011, 45%, tested positive for alcohol and drugs.

Currently the permitted limits are 0.5 grams per liter in blood or 0.25 ml/gr in air, with this change the regulation would become much more severe for drivers who drive after drinking a single beer.

With this measure, Spain would be equal in the rate of alcohol consumption with other countries such as Hungary or the Czech Republic.
