In the course of the annual International Dealer Congress in Davos (Switzerland), Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Vice President of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said: "The decision has been taken to produce the escooter. We are thus adding a new pillar to our smart range for the development of future urban mobility." At the 2010 Paris Motor Show smart presented a wide range of electric vehicles for city travel.

In addition to the smart fortwo electric drive in coupé and cabrio version, the brand offers a smart ebike and the escooter. smart is making this concept a reality: the new smart fortwo electric drive will be on the market from next summer and the first ebike units are already being delivered. The 100% electric scooter will be launched for the first time within the next two years. Work is currently underway to improve the design of the scooter prototype. Its innovative and forward-looking features will make this new product easily recognizable as a real smart. Like the ebike, the escooter, like a smart on two wheels, will be available to customers who do not (yet) have a driver's license.

According to Dr. Annette Winkler, Head of smart: "Anyone who thinks of
urban mobility thinks of smart. We have a suitable emission-free vehicle for every demand. With our products, electric driving is also fun."

A further proof of how smart ideas meet the current demands of urban mobility are the numerous external projects that have been carried out, as well as the awards won by the brand in recent times.

"We are especially proud to have won the Galardó reddot for our ebike, as well as the iF product design 2012 for our comprehensive mobility concept," continues Dr. Winkler.

The jury of the reddot awards honored the series version of the smart ebike 2012 with the "best of the best" award. The internationally renowned iF product design award, which was first presented in 1953, this year recognizes the smart mobility concept, consisting of the smart electric drive, smart ebike and smart escooter, as an excellent overall concept for urban mobility.
